As with style, inner healthy and peace of mind, are vital if we want best selves to shine through. But it isn't the easiest to maintain and, as we age, we can encounter issues to do with high blood pressure, high cholesterol and weight gain.

So when I was recently introduced to nutritional coach Leonie Wright, and was told how a dietary program from The Netherlands completely transformed her own health, I was intrigued. It didn't involve crash diets or all juice detox fixes; just a healthy, positive approach to eating. And so I was eager to introduce her to you all...

We are generally aware that what we eat has a direct and profound effect on our health. But do we know what we should be eating in order to stay healthy and fit in the long term?

We are told to eat healthily and to eat well, but do we really know what that means? There is so much confusing information around that many of us just don’t know what to eat to stay healthy.

My name is Leonie Wright and since May 2010 I have run my own business: EatWright. I help women between 49 and 70 to burn fat and become healthier by eating delicious food and reducing their sugar intake; as a result they lose weight and feel great.

I am a firm believer that we are what we eat and that nourishing ourselves with nature’s food is the key to enhancing our health, vitality and state of mind. Our bodies can heal themselves if given the right foods. This in turn generates positive aspects in other areas of our lives. It is my passion to educate people about what foods they should be eating to lead a healthy and long life so that they can make the right food choices for their lifestyle.

I can draw on my own experience. I used to suffer from high blood pressure, taking medication for 12 years before being diagnosed with high cholesterol for which I was told to take Statins: a blood cholesterol-lowering drug with possible side effects such as dementia, muscle pain and diabetes.

At the time, on a visit to Holland, I was introduced to a 6-week healthy eating programme that was developed by a Dutch nutritionist to address health issues like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes 2, arthritis, skin problems etc. It cleansed the body on cellular level. The aim was to reach an optimum state of health in order to fight any health problems that might exist by cutting out sugar and sugar substitutes and by eating healthy fats and salt. I embarked on that programme 8 years ago.

I have not looked back since. Within 12 weeks I did not need to take my blood pressure tablets any more, my cholesterol level came down and my migraines disappeared. An additional benefit was that I lost just over a stone in weight and had so much more energy. Flu and colds were a thing of the past, all due to a good “spring clean” of the body and knowing what to eat!

I was amazed by the influence healthy food could have on one’s health and trained to become a nutrition coach, passing several nutrition courses both in Holland and the UK. I have read numerous books on the subject of healthy eating and keep up to date with the latest developments. I now run my own practice from home and have so far helped more than 200 people get healthier, fitter and slimmer through the foods they eat.

People have different requirements at different times and I have developed a range of products to suit everyone. My six week healthy eating programme is now available off- and online, people can come to me for a health check, I hold healthy lunch and dinner talks at my home and organise healthy eating talks for groups and companies. I have published two recipe books: CookWright, the no added sugar recipe book and CookWright with stevia.
