Jacket Weather

| | Comments (0)

Fall has finally, truly arrived. Indoors, the heat is on. Outdoors, the leaves are bright with color, and the wind is bracing. It is, as my mother would say, jacket weather.

There is nothing I love better about fall then jackets. Not the heavy burdensome coats of winter, which are an investment, (and like all investments involve research and care,) but the jaunty, happy, disposable jackets of fall. I have lots of them, but I never get tired of wanting more! Last winter I got a very nice, and very reasonably priced jacket from Searle. It is black, and a wool/cashmere blend, and looks like a felt interpretation of a motorcycle jacket. It is warm and chic, with especially pleasing large round buttons. I was happy to wear it for the first time this season today. That must mean I am not sick of it yet.

Still, jackets jump out at me at every store I go to. Marc had some interesting ones the other day. Here is a picture of an adorabley swingy little one:

Don't you want to wear this over a dress and boots to dinner? Or with a longer sweater and some skinny jeans for coffee? So many options, the mind does reel!

Go to J.Crew.com and look at the Ulysses jacket! I love the Victorian buttons, combined with the sleek lines. Usually when the big brands try to do something like this, they go over board with the ruffles. But with this version you can add your own, as you see fit. (And being something of a minimalist, I personally almost never do see fit.)

I also spied some lovely, so-inexpensive-they-are-impossible-to-resist, jackets at H&M. I bet Forever 21 has some great ones too. The point is not necessarily warmth (though that is nice) but compatibility and versatility.

So don't let the end of the warm weather get you down. Go out and buy a jaunty jacket, have some hot cider and feel relieved that you don't have to wear a bathing suit until next spring.
